From the mig33 Team, Merry Christmas!
From humble beginnings in 2005 in Perth, Western Australia, through to Silicon Valley, California, and now to Singapore, I’m as excited as ever to be here at mig33.
We want to become the Tencent QQ for the rest of the world. Tencent is the third largest internet company in the world and is based in china. Focussed initially around chat and chatrooms, they’ve extended their proposition to a variety of social networking features centered around groups and avatars, and supported by games, news and entertainment. It is a massive company that supports close to 500m active users and is synonymous with the internet in China. That’s the sort of company we want to be.
You can see that from our recent direction. Understanding that we need to be closer to our customers (mostly in Asia, South Asia, Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe), we’ve moved the company from Silicon Valley to Singapore, whilst retaining a smaller but important presence still in California. We’ve made some progress in changing the way chatrooms work, introduced migLevels, re-energised virtual gifts, more content, and delivered our first round of social games.
Each week, we’ve been supporting mig33 user events in a wide range of countries, culminating in an event in Indonesia with close to 6,000 people attending. We’re currently trialing our ‘social networking services’ release and testing out our new systems architecture, with a view of a much larger set of products and services releases in January and February. These will include more changes to the way profiles, chatrooms and user groups work, along with a raft of new games both in chatrooms and through our pagelet technology. Admins and Merchants will continue to play important but very different roles in the community and we have plans for both. And during the first quarter of 2010, we will deliver an Avatar system to our community.
All this is being done as a valuable service to our community of over 35m registered users, by our team spread across several countries (Singapore, Malaysia, USA, Indonesia, and India), and supported by our board and shareholders.
There are many many more things planned. 2010 is going to be an exciting year.
Merry Christmas once again. Keep on Migging!
